Chilean forestry sector looks to acacias for wood, food

July 11, 2013

Dr Hans Grosse Werner, Director of the Chilean forestry institute INFOR Chile, visited Australia this week to look at acacias and eucalypts that could be utilised in Chile.

Dr Brian Hilton of World Vision Australia’s Food Security and Climate Change team, along with expert acacia consultants Peter Cunningham and Peter Yates, hosted Dr Werner on a trip to Western Victoria to see many species of acacia. Dr Werner was particularly interested in the wood quality and the value of the seed as a potential food.
